These adorable bunny pretzels are a fun and festive snack perfect for spring celebrations, especially Easter. Soft pretzel dough is shaped into cute bunny forms, baked until golden, and lightly salted for a delicious combination of chewy texture and classic pretzel flavor. They make a delightful treat for parties, family gatherings, or baking with kids.
For the Pretzel Dough:
3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 tablespoon granulated sugar
1 teaspoon salt
2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast (1 packet)
1 1/4 cups warm water
2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
For the Baking Soda Bath:
8 cups water
1/3 cup baking soda
For Topping:
1 large egg, beaten (for egg wash)
Coarse pretzel salt, to taste
In a large bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let sit for about 5 minutes until the mixture becomes foamy.
Add flour, salt, and melted butter to the yeast mixture. Mix until a dough forms. Knead the dough for about 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
Punch down the dough and divide it into 10–12 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a long rope.
Shape the ropes into bunny shapes by forming loops for ears and a rounded body. Place them on the prepared baking sheet.
In a large pot, bring 8 cups of water to a boil and carefully add the baking soda.
Gently dip each shaped pretzel into the baking soda bath for about 20–30 seconds, then return it to the baking sheet.
Brush each pretzel with beaten egg and sprinkle with coarse pretzel salt.
Bake for 12–15 minutes, or until deep golden brown. Allow to cool slightly before serving.
