  • 4 medium yellow onions
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 3 tablespoons olive oil (divided)
  • ½ pound ground beef
  • 1 ½ teaspoons chicken hamburger seasoning
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • ½ teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 cup (56.5 g) Gruyere cheese (shredded, divided)

Instructions

  1. Peel and hollow out the onions, creating space for the filling.
  2. In a skillet, melt butter with 2 tablespoons olive oil over medium heat. Add sliced onion layers from the hollowed onions and cook until golden brown.
  3. In a bowl, mix ground beef with chicken seasoning, garlic powder, black pepper, Worcestershire sauce, and half of the caramelized onions.
  4. Stuff each hollowed onion with the beef mixture. Place in a baking dish and drizzle with remaining olive oil.
  5. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Cover and bake for 30 minutes. Remove foil, sprinkle with Gruyere cheese, and bake for an additional 15 minutes until bubbly.
