  • 5 large Granny Smith apples
  • 1 pkg (14oz) individually wrapped caramels (unwrapped)
  • 2 tbsp water
  • 7 oz chocolate candy bar (broken into pieces)
  • 2 tbsp shortening (divided)
  • 1 cup colored candy coating melts
  • crushed peanuts (optional)

Instructions

  1. Line a baking sheet with waxed paper and spray with non-stick cooking spray.
  2. Boil water in a large pot and briefly dip each apple to remove wax. Dry thoroughly.
  3. Insert wooden sticks into the cores of the cooled apples.
  4. Microwave caramels and water until melted and smooth.
  5. Dip each apple into melted caramel and place on the prepared baking sheet.
  6. Refrigerate for about 15 minutes to set the caramel.
  7. Melt chocolate with shortening in intervals until smooth; dip apples or drizzle over them.
  8. Melt colored candy melts with remaining shortening and drizzle over coated apples.
  9. Add optional toppings before chilling again for at least 3 hours.
