  • 1/4 cup softened butter
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar, divided

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1.5 teaspoons baking powder

  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 2 cups heavy whipping cream
  • 1 pint fresh strawberries, hulled and sliced

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Beat softened butter with 1/4 cup sugar until creamy; add egg yolks one at a time and mix well.
  3. Stir in vanilla extract and combine flour, baking powder, and salt in another bowl.
  4. Gradually add dry ingredients alternately with milk to the butter mixture until smooth.
  5. In a separate bowl, whip egg whites until soft peaks form; add remaining sugar gradually until stiff peaks form.
  6. Gently fold egg whites into batter without deflating.
  7. Pour batter into a greased 9-inch round cake pan lined with parchment paper and bake for about 15 minutes or until golden.
  8. Cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
  9. Mix sliced strawberries with sugar; let sit to release juices.
  10. Whip heavy cream until stiff peaks form.
  11. Once cooled, assemble by layering whipped cream and sweetened strawberries on the cake.
