  • 1.5 lbs ribeye or sirloin steak, thinly sliced
  • 6 tbsp soy sauce
  • 3 tbsp brown sugar
  • 2 tbsp sesame oil
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tbsp fresh ginger, grated
  • 1/2 Asian pear or red apple, grated
  • 1 small onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 cup mushrooms, sliced
  • Cooked rice for serving
  • Lettuce leaves for wrapping

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine soy sauce, brown sugar, sesame oil, garlic, ginger, grated pear or apple, and optional gochujang and black pepper.
  2. Add thinly sliced beef to the marinade and let it soak for at least 30 minutes.
  3. Heat a grill pan or cast iron skillet over medium-high heat and add neutral oil.
  4. Cook marinated beef in batches for about 2–3 minutes on each side until browned.
  5. Drizzle honey butter over the last batch before removing from heat.
  6. Serve bulgogi hot with rice and lettuce leaves for wrapping.
