  • 1 cup powdered sugar (sifted)
  • ¼ cup butter (softened)
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2–3 tbsp heavy cream (adjust for desired consistency)

Instructions

  1. Proof the yeast by mixing warm buttermilk with yeast; let sit until frothy.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine bread flour, granulated sugar, cocoa powder, and salt. Add eggs, softened butter, vanilla extract, red food coloring, and the yeast mixture. Mix until smooth.
  3. Knead dough for about 5-7 minutes until elastic and let rise in a warm place until doubled in size (1-2 hours).
  4. Roll out dough into a rectangle; spread softened butter on top. Mix brown sugar, cinnamon, and cocoa powder; sprinkle over butter. Roll tightly into a log and slice into equal pieces.
  5. Place slices in a greased baking dish and let rise again for about 30 minutes.
  6. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and bake for approximately 25 minutes until golden brown.
  7. While cooling, prepare the cream cheese frosting by beating together softened cream cheese and butter; gradually add powdered sugar and vanilla until smooth.
  8. Drizzle or spread frosting over warm rolls before serving.
