Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup (2 sticks) salted butter (at room temperature)
  • 1 cup packed light brown sugar
  • ½ cup granulated white sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon Kosher salt
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 2½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • One 14-ounce can sweetened condensed milk
  • 10 ounces soft caramels (unwrapped)
  • 1 teaspoon flaked sea salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F. Line a 9×13-inch baking pan with foil and coat with cooking spray.
  2. In a large bowl, beat together the butter and sugars until fluffy. Add eggs, vanilla, salt, and baking soda; mix until smooth. Gradually add flour, mixing until just combined, then stir in chocolate chips.
  3. Press three-quarters of the dough into the prepared pan.
  4. In a saucepan over medium-low heat, combine sweetened condensed milk and caramels, stirring until melted and smooth.
  5. Pour three-quarters of the caramel mixture over the dough, dropping remaining dough by teaspoonfuls on top. Reserve leftover caramel.
  6. Bake for 25 to 30 minutes or until just set in the center.
  7. Sprinkle with flaked sea salt upon removal from the oven and let cool completely before cutting into bars.
