  • 1/2 tsp five spice
  • 1/4 tsp allspice
  • 1/2 cup vegetable broth
  • 3 cups red cabbage, shredded
  • 1 red chili pepper, thinly sliced
  • 2 scallions, thinly sliced
  • Juice and zest of half a lime
  • 2 tsp toasted sesame oil
  • Kosher salt
  • 6 oz smoked tofu or 12 oz frozen edamame
  • 8 leaves of mint leaves, torn
  • 1/4 cup cilantro leaves, roughly chopped
  • Lime wedges for serving

Instructions

  1. Blend the sauce by combining sesame paste, chili oil, vinegar, tamari, garlic, agave, five spice, allspice, and vegetable broth until smooth.
  2. In a large bowl, mix shredded cabbage with lime zest and juice, sesame oil, and salt; massage gently and let marinate.
  3. Cook soba noodles according to package instructions; rinse under cold water until cool.
  4. Prepare protein: crumble smoked tofu or cook frozen edamame as directed.
  5. Assemble the salad: Layer dressed noodles with slaw and protein; drizzle with additional sauce and garnish with herbs.
