  • 1 1/2 cups uncooked sushi rice
  • 2 cups water
  • 2 teaspoons toasted black sesame seeds
  • 2 teaspoons sesame oil
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons non-alcoholic mirin
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • Nori sheets (cut into strips)
  • Furikake seasoning (optional)

Instructions

  1. Rinse the sushi rice under cold water until clear. Cook with water in a rice cooker or pot until done.
  2. Once cooked, mix in sesame seeds and sesame oil; allow to cool slightly.
  3. Wet hands and shape about 1/2 cup of rice into triangles.
  4. In a bowl, combine soy sauce, mirin, and sugar; set aside.
  5. Heat a skillet with oil over medium heat and grill each onigiri until golden brown on all sides.
  6. Brush with the soy mixture and quickly caramelize each side before serving with nori strips.
